A Worpress Blog, in my eyes, is the ONLY way to blog! Why? Because if you want a higher ranking profesional blog where you own the domain and hosting then WordPress is the way to go! :)

Right then guys! A friend of mine asked me how to start a blog, so here is my simple step by step guide on starting your own wordpress blog. Enjoy!

1 Step #1 Registar A Domain

I use Go Daddy to registar my domains. They manage more than 36 million domains! Currently the best in the game! By far!

Some domain name tips!

Keep it simple, easy for people to remember, try using strong keywords for better SEO, personally I prefer to get .com as this is what your browser assumes, but if your business is just catering for your own country then .com is not so important. Job done!

2Step# 2 Its time for your hosting

Ok then, next job is to get your hosting. For this I am highly recommending HostGator, a leading provider of web hosting. Very reliable and awesome customer support! And it also has a clever feature called Fantastico, which will get you started before you know it. Good stuff!

If you only want to host one domain, then you only need to start with the hatchlet. If you want more, then you should go for a baby croc.

Click here to start using Host Gator!

3Step #3 linking your domain to your host

Now then, we have a domain name and a hosting account.

We should have an email from Hostgator with this information ‘Your name servers: ns1234.hostgator.com and ns5678.hostgator.com’ (or something like that)

Now go back to your Godaddy acount. Click on Domains then My Domains then click on the chosen domain name. Scroll down to nameservers and click on Manage. All you need to do then is go down to ‘I host my domains with another provider’ and simply use our old friend Copy and Paste to put the new nameservers from the email into the first two nameservers on Godaddy, click OK. That is that bit sorted!

4.Step #4 Only a couple clicks to go!

Not long to wait now. All you need to do is go back to Hostgator and scroll down to the smilling face of Fantastico. This will take you to another page, click on WordPress then New Installation. Where it says ‘Installation location’ we want it to be on yourdomain.com. Leave the ‘Install in directory’ blank. You then need a username and password, nickname, a valid email that will let you know when someone writes a comment on your blog posts, site name and description (all of this can be changed later, lets just get it going for now). Then click on INSTALL WORDPRESS!!!

Well done! You now own a blog! This may take a while to be live, but in a few minutes you should have your domain linked to the basic wordpress theme. To start playing around with themes, posts, widgets and plugins just go to you admin back office which you can find at http:// your domain name .com/wp-admin and that is it. Stay tuned for advice on building your blog. But if you have any questions in the meantime then please feel free to contact me or comment below.

Happy Blogging!

I would like to start off by stating, thank you for providing me with the information I’ve been searching for. I have been searching the net for three hours searching for it and would have given my right arm if I would have located your website sooner. Not only did I find what I was looking for, but found answers to questions I never thought to ask myself. Thank you for such a wonderful web-site!

Thanks Chris!

I agree, using Godaddy does simplify things but I have heard mixed views. I think that the main reasons for using Hostgator is the great customer support and fantastico. But this is only my personal opinion.

Great post about Twitter mate! I agree, a lot of people out there forget that social media sites are for socializing.

Great advice. It seems pretty confusing at first to set it up. But once you do it a couple times it’s pretty easy. I actually just used godaddy for my hosting as well. Simplifies things a bit, but I’ve heard many good things about hostgator.

Hi Aidan

Great article, I completely agree. We set up about half of our clients websites using WordPress. It just so easy and great for search engines.

This knowledge should be taught at schools.

I have added you to my RSS feeder so will see more of your blog posts now.

Thanks

Natalie
